This program will be led by Dr. Krista Jacobsen, faculty member in the College of Agriculture (Sustainable Agriculture & Horticulture) at University of Kentucky. During the info session, Dr. Jacobsen and Education Abroad Advisor, Summer Eglinski, will discuss program details, application processes, and scholarship opportunities.
Traveling
through three study regions in Sumatra, Java, and Bali, students will learn
about agriculture, culture and geography of Indonesia. Course activities will
introduce students to ecological field methods to measure biodiversity and
ecosystem functions, social science methods including interviews and
asset-based mapping, and critical reflection activities focused on holistic
analysis of agricultural sustainability. Particular emphasis will be placed on
agroforestry, organic vegetables, rice, as well as alternative and traditional
agricultural production systems.
